Lyre vs Claude Code: keep the agent on your computer, work from anywhere

Who each workflow fits

Claude Code already works across several surfaces. Lyre adds a host-and-paired-device layer around the local agent you run.

Lyre may fit when you…

  • Already run Claude Code or Codex CLI in a project on your computer.
  • Want the project files, dependencies and terminal tools to stay on that host.
  • Want to check progress, answer approvals and review changes from a phone or another computer.
  • Want interactive app previews and App-only sharing next to the coding session.

Claude Code may fit when you…

  • Want Anthropic’s own CLI, IDE, desktop and browser surfaces.
  • Work mainly at the computer that runs the agent.
  • Do not need a separate host workspace or paired-device access layer.
  • Do not need Lyre’s app-only preview sharing.

QuestionLyreClaude Code
What it isA local-first workspace around coding-agent CLIs, projects, terminals and interactive app previews.Anthropic’s agentic coding tool, documented for the terminal, IDE, desktop app and browser.
Primary interfaceA desktop app plus phone, browser or another-computer clients connected to the host. The Claude Code CLI and Anthropic’s own supported clients and integrations.
Where the work runsProjects and agent processes run on the selected host computer. The host must stay awake and reachable.Claude Code runs where you start it. Anthropic documents local and cloud surfaces, so the answer depends on the mode you use.
Continuing from another deviceA paired phone or browser client can continue the conversation on the host, subject to its permissions. Agent messaging is not time-limited; remote app preview and desktop viewing share the Free allowance.Claude Code has its own terminal, IDE, desktop and web surfaces. Check Anthropic’s current documentation for the client and plan you intend to use.
Agent choiceRun Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity or Muse Code. Each provider keeps its own account and approvals.Claude Code is Anthropic’s agent, used with a Claude subscription or Claude API billing. Anthropic also documents some third-party provider options.
Preview and sharingOpen an interactive preview of the running app and share one app with App-only access. Preview and agent lifecycles are independent.Claude Code runs commands and tests in your project. Previewing the app is left to your project’s own tools and the client you use.
PricingFree for local use. Lyre Pro is $15 per month and Lyre AI is $100 per month. AI provider usage is billed separately.Anthropic documents a Claude subscription or Claude API billing for Claude Code. Check Anthropic’s pricing for current terms.

Both can be used for the same kind of coding task. Choose by where you want the agent to run, which client you want in your hand and how much of the surrounding workspace you need.

When Claude Code is the better choice

  • You want Anthropic’s first-party clients and account relationship without another workspace layer.
  • You work at the computer that runs the agent and do not need remote continuation.
  • You want Anthropic’s current web or cloud features as they ship, using its own product surface.
  • You do not need a separate app preview or App-only sharing workflow.

Lyre does not replace Claude Code. It runs the agent software you install and keeps the provider account and approvals with that provider. If you are happy with the direct Claude Code experience, use it directly.

Questions people ask before choosing

Does Lyre replace Claude Code?

No. Lyre can run Claude Code on your host and connect other devices to that work. Claude Code keeps its own account, model access and approval behavior.

Do I have to move my project into Lyre?

No. Open the folder where it already lives on the host. The project files stay there; prompts and project context go to the AI provider you configure.

Can I use Codex instead of Claude Code?

Yes. Lyre supports several coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity and Muse Code. Check the provider guide for the agent and account you use.

Can I really continue from my phone?

Yes, through a paired phone or browser client connected to the host. The host must stay awake and reachable, and its permissions decide what the client can do. Remote viewing has a plan allowance on Free.

What happens when my computer sleeps?

The agent and project live on that computer, so a sleeping or offline host cannot continue the work. Wake it or reconnect before sending another task.

Claude Code, Cursor and other product names belong to their respective owners. Lyre's comparison reflects public documentation checked in October 2026 and may not match later releases.
